Situation  Active Directory Sync has failed and given you an error message.
Solution   See thee below list of Active Directory error codes and suggested troubleshooting steps.

 

Active Directory Error Codes 

When running a manual sync of Active Directory and set-up configuration there are sometimes error codes and issues that may occur. Below are some of them outlined and potential resolutions before contacting Technical Support.

Errors And Troubleshooting Steps:

Error - “Could Not Bind Privileged User. Ldap Error Code  =-1 – Can’t Contact LDAP Server”

  1. Make sure all of Proofpoint Essential IP ranges are correctly whitelisted on your firewall: (Including the 148.xxx breakdown). For a list of IP addresses
  2. Under ACTIVE DIRECTORY CONNECTION SETTINGS, ensure the Username is a Domain Admin for that domain.
  3. Ensure TLS is enabled. We use TLS version 1.2 or newer.

Error - LDAP Binding Failed With The Following Error: 'Invalid Credentials' 

  1. Confirm that the username and password are correct.
  2. Ensure all of Proofpoint Essential IP ranges are correctly whitelisted on your firewall: (Including the 148.xxx breakdown). For a list of IP addresses

Error: Failed To Connect To DC (Connection Refused). Error Code (111)

Error: Failed To Connect To DC (Connection Timed Out). Error Code (110)
