ISSUE:
On June 30th, Microsoft will discontinue support for the Active Directory Graph API interface that allows Proofpoint to validate users using Azure AD Sync. In 2020, new clients were deployed using the modern Graph API instead with no issues, however it's quite possible that if you've been with us for a long time or you've been moved over to Vircom from a different partner and have been using Proofpoint for a long time that you might still be using the old Active Directory Graph API and will need to be moved over.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOTHING?
If you do nothing, mail will continue to flow, however if you add or remove a user or employee on office365, that mailbox will not automatically sync with Proofpoint. So if your company has a lot of mailbox churn, you will probably realize it sooner than later. This being said, it should not have any impact on mail flow but it would be best to update the authentication API you are using with Proofpoint
HOW DO I TELL IF I'M USING THE OLD OR NEW API?
Go to your Office365 Admin center -> Azure Active Directory
SELECT APP REGISTRATION -> Pick the Proofpoint / modusCloud application API
SELECT API Permissions
The type of API used will show up
If it's Active Directory Graph -> You're using the legacy interface, the one that will stop being supported in June 2022.
If it shows "Microsoft GRAPH" - that's the modern interface, no change needed.
OKAY, SO I'M USING THE OLD API, WHAT DO I DO?
Here's a video explaining how to do the changeover.
